Let's continue with our Vineyard hopping in Yarra Valley. I really have to speed up as there are still 15-20 posts before I could cover the whole of this Australia trip. As such, I will let the pictures do the talking for this post on Yering Station Winery and the Chateau Yering Hotel where we spent a large part of our third day in Yarra Valley touring and having lunch.

First of all, I would like to say Thank You to all of you who had left well wishes here and on my Facebook page for Ashley's Birthday! You helped to make it a very happy birthday for her!
I cooked this brussel sprout, carrot and potato stew as a side dish to go with the Sous Vide duck breast for her birthday dinner. This is a very versatile dish as a side for poultry or meat, over rice or bread. You can use any vegetable or beans that you like.
It was not in my original plan to feature this as a recipe post on its own but my beloved fellow blogger and follower Aunty Phong Hong requested for it and so PH, here you go!

Ashley is turning 10 coming Tuesday and we celebrated her birthday earlier on Sunday as we would have the whole day for the preparation. We always let the birthday kid chooses his/her birthday dinner menu. Unlike her sister who had requested Daddy to cook a full Chinese dinner two weeks ago, Ashley prefers Daddy's western cooking.

Wife's almost-nightly CNY baking spree continued with these Mexican Wedding Cookies. She had been liking these pecan shortbread balls since the first time she baked them a while ago. I could fully understand her liking for these cookies. When I was taking these photos, the heavenly aroma of pecan nuts, cinnamon and shortbread filled the kitchen air. Although it was past midnight and I was ready to go to bed after the shots, I could not resist and popped a few of these heavenly treats into my mouth.

Mention Australia wine and one name will come into most people's mind, James Halliday - the wine writer, wine critic, wine judge and winemaker. Coldstream Hills Winery was founded by James himself in 1985. Since its first vintage, Coldstream Hills enjoys a fine reputation for outstanding wines, particularly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Chinese New Year (CNY) is around the corner. Almost all the blog posts on my reading list are related to CNY. CNY goodies and recipes, restaurants reviews on CNY menus etc. With all these delicious posts, how could I not feel the CNY festive mood?

Wife told me about this Gnocchi dish that she enjoyed very much during her corporate lunch this week and asked if I could replicate that for our Sunday dinner yesterday. I agreed and asked her to recall what the ingredients were. We had everything at home except the Gnocchi. Instead of making the petite potato pillows from scratch, I made a trip to Huber's and bought a packet of the ready-made Gnocchi.

Although it was more than a month ago when we visited Yarra Yering cellar door, I'm still very excited penning this post as I had enjoyed the wine tasting at Yarra Yering very much - the best wine tasting experience in Yarra Valley during this trip.

It was our third and final day in Yarra Valley. After a wine-free day the day before, our objective for the day was very clear and focussed - Wine, wine and more wine.

One of the kids' favourite dishes at the Tze Char stalls (Local chinese eateries serving wide variety of home-style a la carte dishes) is Pumpkin prawns. I successfully replicated the prawn dish yesterday at home upon Audrey's request for her birthday dinner (but did not have the time to take photo as I was really busy cooking up a storm in the kitchen).

On the second day, we took a break from wine tasting and took the kids on a Puffing Billy train ride from Belgrave to Lakeside in the scenic Dandenong Ranges.

By the time we left YarraWarra Estate, it was already close to 4pm and we had only time for one last winery visit for the day - Long Gully Estate.
Winemaker Han Tao Lau was busy with his task at the winery when we parked the car. However, he happily stopped what he was doing and opened the cellar door for us and walked us through the full range of Long Gully Estate wine.

The family, especially the kids, love Sous Vide Eggs. The perfectly cooked eggs have become regular items on our breakfast menu and starters on dining table whenever we wanted to add some class to our parties.

This was the second winery that we visited in Yarra Valley and the one with the most interesting architecture. A passage way with curved lofty sandstone wall led us to a courtyard where we were greeted by 8 (if I remember correctly) majestic pillars erected in between the cellar door and the TarraWarra Museum of Art. Large portraits windows offered glorious views of the vineyard.

This is a fairly simple amuse-bouche recipe which I really like. Served in shot glasses, the hors d'oeuvre never fail to impress guests because of the presentation, colour combination and most importantly the taste. The dill and lemon sour cream sauce along with the smoked salmon and crunchy crackers is an amazing combination.

Last New Year eve, we had a quite a party at 2706.
CJ and Jazz are now 13 hours aways in Toronto and the Tans and Wongs had other plans yesterday. As such for the 2012 Year end party, it was just the Yeos and us. Still, we had a great count-down dinner last night catching up old times and going through the pictures of their recent Australia trip.
