New Year Eve Dinner 2012

Last New Year eve, we had a quite a party at 2706

CJ and Jazz are now 13 hours aways in Toronto and the Tans and Wongs had other plans yesterday. As such for the 2012 Year end party, it was just the Yeos and us. Still, we had a great count-down dinner last night catching up old times and going through the pictures of their recent Australia trip.

As the group was smaller, I planned a simpler dinner menu. I prepared some Smoked Salmon with sour cream served in shot glasses and a cold-cut platter to go with the Champagne before the dinner proper. The cold starter was easy to prepare and looked elegant when served to the guests.

CL prepared the French Onion soup served with home-made Ciabatta topped with melted, toasted cheese . The classic soup was thick and delicious - a truly comforting stomach warmer on a cold New Year eve evening.

Our main dish for the night was one of my blog's Top 10 recipes for 2012 - 72-hours Sous Vide Beef Short Ribs. I started to sous vide the beef short ribs on Friday afternoon, just in time for our dinner last night. The short ribs was served with a balsamic soy reduction and wife's jackfruit, walnut and wild rockets salad.

You guess it correctly! Dessert was my favourite Bread & Butter Pudding, individually served.

HH was generous enough to share his bottle of the Clos du Marquis St. Julien 1996 last night. He must have kept this for years. You can read up on my review of the 2007 vintage of this wine here.

We continued the night with 2 more bottles of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.  One from Chateau Faugeres and the other from Chateau Cote de Baleau, both 2006 vintage and bought from the recent Auric-Pacific wine sales.

We welcomed 2013 with 10 minutes of non-stop spectacular firework displays on the skies above Resort World Sentosa and Marina Bay area. Both could be viewed clearly from my dining and living room balconies respectively.

I wish all a very fruitful 2013 ahead! Cheers.
