My new toy for the new year - Sony Alpha Nex-5 Digital Camera

YES!!! Finally, I bought the digital camera that I had been eyeing for some time today - The Sony Alpha NEX-5. Being a point-and-shoot camera user for the longest time, I had always wanted to upgrade to a digital SLR camera for the higher picture quality but was put off by its typical size. With the new Sony Alpha NEX series (Actually not that new anymore, the series was launched in June 2010), I can expect high image quality without all the bulk, and the photographic versatility of interchangeable lenses.

Several hot features were brought over from recent Alphas and Cyber-shot digital cameras, including Sweep Panorama, Auto High-Dynamic Range shooting, Handheld Twilight, and Anti-motion-blur modes, each of which strategically combine and align several images into one seamless one. It's pretty impressive stuff.

On top of all the features, the NEX-5 is a truly good-looking camera.

After the purchase from Sim Lim Square, I couldn't wait to start testing the camera. While waiting in the car for wifey to get her baking stuff from Phoon Huat, I took a couple of test shots with the new toy.

The Sony Alpha NEX-5 offers the kind of image quality you can only get from large sensors, but without the mechanical bulk and complexity of digital SLRs. It also offer the ideal next step for owners of digital compacts like me who want a camera with a similar look and feel to the ones they’re used to. 5 stars!

Following shots were taken when I reached home, low depth-of-field effect (Blur background) can be achieved easily with this camera. This blog will be more interesting going forward with this device.
